Gabrielle Coco Bonheur Chanel died on January 10, 1971 in Paris, France at the age of 87, in her suite at the Ritz Hotel just across the street from her boutique at 21 Rue Cambon. She was never married or had children. She left behind an estate worth over $90 million. Multiple assistants took over the business however the business went downhill for the remainder of the 1970s. In the 1980s Karl Lagerfeld took over and he focused on younger customers.
